The State Water Board Chairman Felicia Marcus has stated that if the drought continues through next winter, and we do not conserve more, that the consequences could be even more catastrophic than they already are. The State Water Resources Control Board has adopted an expanded emergency regulation to safeguard the state's remaining water supplies. Local agencies will be able to fine property owners up to $500 a day for failure to implement conservation requirements. Everyone needs to be concerned about the drought and take whatever steps necessary to conserve. Check the Rancho Water website www.bewaterwise.com for additional information and ideas on water conservation, including available rebates.
The turf removal project funded by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) rebate is fully approved and the project contract was signed with our regular landscape maintenance contractor, Canyon Springs Landscaping. The project will be commence the week of March 16th and will be ongoing until about June.
The plan is to first spray and kill the turf in the areas being removed in the recreation center parking lot and closest to the pool entry. The contractor will then retrofit the irrigation system, install new plant material and finalize the sections by installing mulch between the plants. The project will continue south toward the large turf area and finish with a new decomposed granite walking path making the existing sidewalk to the end of the park a complete loop back to the parking lot. The Board’s intention with the project is to maintain the overall look and feel of the Recreation center we’re all used to, while reducing water usage and creating more usable space for members. We respectfully ask that you keep away from the construction areas, which will be marked with signage and caution tape for the safety of your family and pets. Pesticides will be used to eradicate the turf in all renovation areas to prevent re-growth. The benefits of this project are substantial, especially as it relates to the Association’s water usage and efficiency. In the summer months, the Association is typically seeing Inefficient/Tier 3 and Wasteful/Tier 4 water charges due to increased water regulations and the acres of turf the Association keeps green all year. The project size and scope is also made possible for a grant by MWD which is $2.00 for every square foot of turf removed, we are benefiting from a substantial short-term renovation and long-term utility cost savings. Please review the PDF below for information regarding pest treatment on the Association's common area sycamore trees on March 24, 2015. If you have any questions, please Contact Us.
